The Hotel Caravelas was inaugurated in July 1988, and fully renovated in 2002-2003. The expansion is planned for 69 more rooms predicting its completion in 2009.

All rooms come with a wonderful view of the canal between the islands of Pico and Faial, or a view of the Pico Mountain.
Area information
Hotel Caravelas is located in the centre of the coastal village of Madalena. It is encircled almost entirely with the Atlantic Ocean except for the east, where it is bordered by São Roque do Pico and Lajes do Pico.
The island is positioned on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, meaning that deep water is very close. Active industries on Pico include tourism, shipbuilding and wine production. The landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. It is famous for its Pico Wine (Vinho do Pico).
